The well-known weather conditions at Spa-Francorchamps got the better of Brawn GP today. The team, leading the championship, failed to reach its performance target, likely hampered by the lack of warmth in Belgium. Just days after the European Grand Prix in Valencia, Button and Barrichello now face a completely different situation.<\/p>\n
Although the team was able to test the BGP in dry conditions on the track, neither Button nor Barrichello were able to enjoy good performances. The team struggled in the afternoon but does not consider itself in a serious situation. Thus, despite the 17th and 18th times in Free Practice 2, the drivers and Ross Brawn remain optimistic!<\/p>\n
Jenson Button – 2nd and 17th:<\/b><\/p>\n
This morning’s session was complicated by the weather, which meant we couldn’t get the most out of the car once the rain came. The experience was nonetheless valuable, in case it rains during qualifying or the race… It’s always possible at Spa.<\/p>\n
In the afternoon, we conducted more interesting tests, comparing aerodynamics, downforce, and tires. We gathered a lot of information but unfortunately, at the moment, we are not as fast as we wanted. The balance of the car particularly needs to be improved, but we have the potential to be up front in qualifying.<\/p>\n
Rubens Barrichello – 6th and 18th:<\/b><\/p>\n
\u00ab We made a lot of progress today, so the weekend is off to a good start. There are still possibilities for improvement to find the car’s maximum potential, but that’s always the case on a Friday. It was quite interesting to have rain in the morning, just in case, to be prepared. Nevertheless, the car is not yet as competitive as in Valencia, but we are going to work hard tomorrow in qualifying! \u00bb<\/p>\n
Ross Brawn \u2013 Director:<\/b><\/p>\n
\u00ab It’s a good start to the Grand Prix, in which we achieved more than our plan anticipated, despite the interruption due to rain. We expect improvements in tire warm-up which should be quicker. Our hard work is thus rewarded, even though there is still a lot left to be at the top.
