Williams believes that the return to high-downforce circuits and numerous upgrades will place the team back in the top six after the debacles at the Spa-Francorchamps track in Belgium and Monza in Italy.<\/p>\n
Driver No. 1 Nico Rosberg finished in the top six in every race between Monaco and Valencia, but the English team scored only one point in Belgium and Italy, with a particularly tough race at Monza. Kazuki Nakajima and Nico Rosberg only qualified in 17th and 18th positions and finished the Grand Prix in 10th and 16th place, respectively.<\/p>\n
The chief operations engineer, Rod Nelson, claims that these results are not a surprise as Williams had anticipated that their low downforce package would not be competitive, but he doesn’t believe Monza has started a trend that will repeat for the rest of the season: “We thought the situation would indeed get complicated,” Nelson said in an interview on the official Williams podcast. “Spa is the first low downforce circuit of the season. Then, with Monza being the only circuit with such a low level of downforce, we expected even greater problems with our package and I think that has been confirmed.”<\/p>\n
Fortunately, we are moving to Singapore. We are therefore back on a high-downforce circuit, but we have also made some significant aerodynamic improvements, so we are quite confident. We expect a good result with our cars in Q3 and I don’t see why this won’t be repeated until the end of the championship.<\/p>\n
