It is a merciless battle that BMW nearly fought for glory during this Singapore Grand Prix. Fortunately, Robert Kubica fought tooth and nail for the gain of eighth place, which means one point. A nice reward, especially since the team is improving in the tough challenge of qualifying.<\/p>\n
Nick Heidfeld had less luck this race weekend. Starting from the pits, he was hit by Adrian Sutil, who had spun out. The BMW driver had no illusions about the outcome of the race. He started with a lot of fuel in his tank.<\/p>\n
Robert Kubica – 8th:<\/b><\/p>\n
\u00ab It was a very difficult race. I was quite unlucky during the safety car period. I lost two places in the standings because I had just refueled before the Safety Car came out. On top of that, we had a lot of problems with the degradation of the rear tires on my car. The last ten to fifteen laps of my stint were very slow and, particularly in the last stint, I had to defend my position, which was extremely difficult. In the end, I must say that this point was the hardest to win in my entire career. \u00bb<\/p>\n
Nick Heidfeld – Retirement:<\/b><\/p>\n
\u00ab For me, Sutil is clearly at fault. I saw it from the inside and later on television. He spun backward and then shortly after moved a bit straight into my car. It’s something you shouldn’t do. I had no chance to avoid this accident. I was last with a lot of fuel on board. The speed at the back of the pack is very low, and consequently, I started saving fuel very early since overtaking was impossible anyway. Even though my chances were almost non-existent today, it’s still annoying not to finish because of such a stupid incident. \u00bb<\/p>\n
Mario Theissen – BMW Motorsport Director:<\/b><\/p>\n
\u00ab It was a lot of work for just one point. With Nick starting from the pits, it was clear that he would not be involved in the outcome of the race. Unfortunately, he was completely out of the race due to an accident where he was not at fault. Robert, once again, was unlucky because the safety car was deployed right after his first pit stop. That’s why he lost a few positions. What we take from this race is the improvement in qualifying performance.
