The McLaren-Mercedes team has been fined $50,000 by the FIA for not adhering to safety regulations. The team released Kovalainen from the pit while refueling was still in progress.<\/p>\n
The Finnish driver then left with the refueler’s hose, which he tore off and spilled enough fuel on the pit lane to ignite the atmosphere as R\u00e4ikk\u00f6nen’s Ferrari passed by.<\/p>\n
The FIA (F\u00e9d\u00e9ration Internationale de l’Automobile), having deemed the incident very serious, fined McLaren, with the money going towards safety in motorsport, while Heikki Kovalainen was penalized with a 25-second addition to his finishing time.<\/p>\n
He thus moves from 9th place to 12th, just ahead of Romain Grosjean.<\/p>\n
