Mark Webber had a fantastic race to add Brazil to his record this Sunday. The Australian driver got off to a good start to maintain his second position, holding off Kimi R\u00e4ikk\u00f6nen, and then the two cars made contact. But unlike the Finnish driver, the Red Bull driver had no trouble continuing his pursuit of victory. From the moment Rubens Barrichello made his first pit stop, Mark Webber took advantage of the open field to widen the gap. He was no longer challenged and crossed the finish line as the winner.<\/p>\n
For his teammate, it’s a different story; Sebastian Vettel was in tears at the finish. Even though he would have needed a perfect scenario to become world champion, he held onto hope deep inside. The young driver delivered a remarkable race, starting from 15th place on the grid and finishing 4th, but it wasn’t enough to prevent Jenson Button from becoming the 2009 world champion.<\/p>\n
Mark Webber – 1st:<\/b><\/p>\n
I am happy! You never know what’s going to happen in the first stint of a race, even if I knew Rubens and Robert were a bit lighter than me. I was in Robert’s pace to begin with, and when they did their pit stops, I knew I had free track to make a sufficient gap. I was a bit panicked in the second stint when Robert started coming back, although my pace wasn’t too bad. It’s a fantastic feeling to win again. As a team, we’ve had some victories this year after several difficult seasons, but today we confirm second place in the constructors’ championship. We are very proud of what we have achieved this year with the team. I want to thank Renault, the engines have been very good. Congratulations to Jenson and also to Brawn for winning both titles today after a great fight.<\/p>\n
Sebastian Vettel – 4th:<\/b><\/p>\n
I think there’s a guy at Brawn GP who’s happier than me today. Overall it was a good race starting from the back of the grid and finishing fourth. We were helped by a few people, but I think fourth place was the maximum we could achieve today. Without the problems in qualifying yesterday, we could have won the race. But we can’t turn back time. I didn’t have too much pressure during the race, I was very focused on every lap. I knew Jenson was just in front or behind me and would score points for the championship, but you never know what can happen in the last two laps. At one point, I was praying for rain, there was the smell of rain, but it didn’t come. Congratulations to Jenson and Brawn, they’ve done a great job this year.<\/p>\n

\u00abMark was perfect from start to finish today. We knew he had a good fuel load and he used it to shine, it’s a great victory and a very strong weekend for him. For Sebastian, he started from a distant position on the grid, after yesterday’s difficulties. But he ran a magnificent race and fourth place is an excellent result, considering where he started. It’s a very good performance. Congratulations to Jenson for becoming the new world champion, he has been a great competitor this year and also to the Brawn team for winning the constructors’ championship.
