Gary Paffett for McLaren finished at the top of the timesheets during the second day of young driver testing in Jerez. The DTM driver completed 80 laps of the Spanish circuit, registering a best time of 1:18.718, the fastest lap of the day, shortly after 1:00 PM. A light rain in the mid-afternoon made the track much more dangerous and lap times fell by about six seconds.<\/p>\n
Track conditions improved over the final hours of testing during which Nico H\u00fclkenberg (Williams) jumped to second place with a time 0.466 seconds slower than Paffett. He will later share the driving of the FW31 with Oliver Turvey yesterday, Thursday.<\/p>\n
The Red Bull driver, Daniel Ricciardo, continued to impress with the best time of the morning and the third fastest time of the day. The Australian led a shorter program than on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
Paul di Resta was once again in top form with the third fastest time of the morning, before giving up his seat to JR Hildebrand for Force India in the afternoon. H\u00fclkenberg’s return pushed the Briton back to fourth place.<\/p>\n
Esteban Gutierrez tested for Sauber and was ahead of his former Formula 3 Euro Series teammate, Jules Bianchi, once again powered by a Ferrari. They are 5th and 9th respectively, but the Frenchman is the only one to have completed more than 100 laps of the Iberian circuit.<\/p>\n
Mike Conway and Marcus Ericsson once again divided the work on behalf of Brawn. They are separated by only 0.218s in sixth and seventh places.<\/p>\n
Renault put the Chinese driver Ho-Pin Tung on the track in the morning and the Brazilian Lucas di Grassi in the afternoon. The GP2 race winner was faster by 0.694 seconds.<\/p>\n
There was only one interruption during the day, caused by Mirko Bortolotti from Toro Rosso stopping on the track after half an hour of testing. He accidentally pressed a button that prevented his gearbox from working. The car then spent a long time in the pits until the end of the morning due to an unrelated technical problem.<\/p>\n
