When Jean Todt, president of the FIA, visited Indonesia last week, some newspapers took it as a sign that F1 might one day join the 4th most populous country in the world, always in its desire to expand into new markets.<\/p>\n
The country has only one decent circuit, which hosts international races including A1GP, located in Sentul, 40 km from Jakarta.<\/p>\n
Nevertheless, Jean Todt specified that the circuit did not suit Formula 1 and that some changes would be necessary to consider a possible Grand Prix at the Sentul International Circuit.<\/p>\n
\u00ab Of course, F1 is the pinnacle of motorsport and I must say it is encouraging to see the evolution of the sport in the Asian region, \u00bb Todt stated to the local newspaper Jakarta Post<\/i>. \u00ab I have personally been to the Sentul circuit, and it is definitely not up to the standard of a Formula 1 circuit. But I am sure that with some renovations, this circuit could host the WTCC championship. \u00bb<\/p>\n
Regarding a potential Indonesian Grand Prix, Jean Todt clearly stated that it would not be feasible in the next five to ten years.<\/p>\n
