Rome has officially abandoned its project to establish a Formula 1 race in the city, with the Italian city indicating that its efforts will be dedicated to securing the Olympic Games.<\/p>\n
After months of speculation about holding a race on the streets of Rome, hopes were dashed a few weeks ago when Bernie Ecclestone wrote a letter to the organizers saying that a country cannot host two races. Since Monza already has a long-term contract to host the Italian Grand Prix, this destroyed Rome’s hopes of having a race.<\/p>\n
Although it was suggested that Rome would continue to push, its mayor Gianni Alemanno indicated that his F1 dream was over.<\/p>\n
