For the past few seasons, and even more this year, Formula 1 teams have been using engine exhaust gases to generate more aerodynamic downforce, with the gases being blown onto the rear diffuser – a concept known as the blown diffuser. However, the FIA has decided that this concept will no longer be allowed from 2012.<\/p>\n
The teams will now be required to direct the exhaust gases upwards, which, beyond altering the downforce of the car, also changes the visual aspect – as can be seen in the photo opposite.<\/p>\n
The British team based in Grove has had a tough season this year and hopes to bounce back in 2012, and what better way than to take advantage of these tests to try out new solutions for its next single-seater.<\/p>\n
All the time spent on track is very important because we can learn. We must constantly deal with the problems we have had throughout the season.
