Craig Pollock, the head of the PURE project, revealed to the magazine Speedweek<\/i> that the design phase of its 1.6-liter V6 Turbo, which will be implemented in F1 starting in 2014, is complete. Testing is expected to take place from mid-July this year. Pollock also stated that the PURE project, led by former Ferrari engine head Gilles Simon, is six months ahead of schedule.<\/p>\n
For the record, PURE – which stands for Propulsion Universelle et R\u00e9cuperation d’Energie – is a company with a project to design an F1 engine for 2014 – thus according to regulations, a 1.6L Turbo V6 – independently without support from a manufacturer. At the moment, the project has no backing from any team and there is no guarantee it will actually be used by any teams on the grid in 2014.<\/p>\n
Despite this uncertainty, Craig Pollock is convinced that PURE will indeed be present in F1 in 2014, unlike Cosworth. He believes that the British engine manufacturer, which will only supply engines to the Marussia and Hispania Racing Team in 2012, might withdraw in 2014 – leaving only four engine manufacturers in F1, including PURE.<\/p>\n
I am convinced that there will be four engine manufacturers in Formula 1 in 2014. They will be Renault, Ferrari, Mercedes, and PURE, added Pollock in the German publication.<\/p>\n
