After an initial test that was not very successful in Spain, where Mercedes had tested a “megaphone” exhaust intended to increase noise, Ferrari is expected to try its own solution, with the approval and expertise of the FIA, during the private tests that will take place at Silverstone after the British Grand Prix.<\/p>\n
The Scuderia and some acoustics experts hired by the FIA have worked, according to our British colleagues from *Autosport*, on a different solution: a double-exhaust, as well as elements that would act like a megaphone between the turbocharger and the wastegate (which regulates the pressure of the exhaust gases passing through the turbine). Such a configuration has apparently yielded satisfactory results on the test bench; however, let’s remember that this was also the case with Mercedes’ solution.<\/p>\n
The device, a final version of which should be completed for Silverstone, if adopted, will require a revision of the technical regulations for generalization: indeed, currently, only one exhaust is allowed (article 5.8.2 of the Technical Regulations).<\/p>\n
When asked about the noise issue, Kimi R\u00e4ikk\u00f6nen, Ferrari driver, said: When you ask people who came before what was the first thing they noticed, they said the noise was wonderful, and if they were placed in a corner, it seemed very fast. Today, when they come, it doesn’t seem as fast because there’s no more noise. I’m sure it’s not as good for them and not as exciting and different, so I’m sure there are many areas that can be improved for the public.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
