The Japanese Grand Prix is an opportunity to take stock of the mechanical components that may have been changed since the start of the season. Thus, the FIA, through several official documents, allows for tracking, throughout a race weekend, all replacement operations performed on the cars.<\/p>\n

This season, such a series of information is of utmost importance, as the Sporting Regulations (Article 28.4a) require teams to adhere to a maximum quota of five power units per car, each consisting of a series of components that can themselves be individually replaced, up to a limit of five. These components are:<\/p>\n

– le moteur thermique<\/p>\n

– le turbocompresseur<\/p>\n

– la batterie<\/p>\n

– le MGU-K<\/p>\n

– le MGU-H<\/p>\n

– l’unit\u00e9 de contr\u00f4le \u00e9lectronique (UCE)<\/p>\n

Beyond these quotas, penalties of 5 or 10 grid positions can be applied.<\/p>\n

Several drivers replaced a large part of their components: Jenson Button changed his six compounds, Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg changed five, and the Williams drivers four, for example.<\/p>\n

Regarding penalties, after Daniil Kvyat in Monza, Pastor Maldonado is the second driver this season to use a sixth component of the hybrid block – the internal combustion engine – and he will therefore receive a 10-place grid penalty on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Outside of the power unit, some drivers have installed a new gearbox: Max Chilton, whose previous gearbox completed its six consecutive GPs, as well as Nico Rosberg and Jenson Button, who are allowed to change it following their retirements in Singapore.<\/p>\n

Thus, before the qualifying session, here are all the elements used by the drivers since the start of the season.<\/p>\n
