The FIA stewards indicated on Thursday that the absence of Caterham and Marussia for the United States Grand Prix in Formula 1 constitutes an infraction, while specifying that no sanctions would be imposed, for the moment.<\/p>\n
While both teams claimed to have received from Bernie Ecclestone, the president of the FOM (which manages the commercial rights of the discipline), a waiver to skip the American round\u2014and the Brazilian round, at least for Caterham\u2014the FIA emphasized that they were not authorized to be absent.<\/p>\n
Indeed, the Formula 1 Sporting Regulations \/f1\/actualite\/18908-la-fia-exprime-son-point-de-vue-sur-les-difficultes-de-caterham-et-marussia.html states in Article 13.2, paragraph f, that the entry of a team into the championship involves \u00ab a commitment [\u2026] to participate in each event with the registered number of cars and drivers. \u00bb<\/p>\n
The absence of the cars having been noted during technical checks, the stewards indicated that, while they have taken into account the financial difficulties of the two structures \u2013 as requested by the FIA earlier in the day \u2013 not to penalize them, the issue had been brought to the attention of Jean Todt.<\/p>\n
