Jaime Alguersuari, who drove for the Toro Rosso team for two and a half seasons between 2009 and 2011, believes that Formula 1 has changed a lot today, that it is easier for drivers and therefore more accessible for young drivers, even describing it as a “super-GP2.”<\/p>\n
The Spanish driver, who is currently racing in Formula E for the Virgin Racing team, shared his perspective on current F1 with Reuters<\/i>: “I think a Formula 1 car should be difficult to drive, you should really struggle to drive it. I remember training my neck every day for Suzuka and Turkey and those places where it’s so special to drive in F1. Now … a Formula 1 car has become a super-GP2 or a big World Series. So it’s much more accessible for young drivers.”<\/p>\n
Alguersuari, who became the youngest driver to start a Formula 1 Grand Prix in 2009 at the age of 19 but will see Max Verstappen break this record when he debuts in Melbourne at just 17, believes the Dutchman will have no trouble adapting to his new single-seater, despite limited experience: I think Verstappen will do a good job, clearly. He will adapt very quickly, you’ll see like Kevin [Magnussen] did at McLaren.
