The reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton set the fastest time yesterday during the FP1 of the Canadian Grand Prix held at the Gilles Villeneuve circuit. The Brit dominated the session, pushing his teammate back by 0.4 seconds and the rest of the field by one and a half seconds.<\/p>\n

The best of the rest was Romain Grosjean driving his Lotus, also powered by a Mercedes engine. He is ahead of another car powered by the star brand, the Force India of Nico H\u00fclkenberg, then the Ferrari of Sebastian Vettel, with the 5th fastest time.<\/p>\n

On a track featuring long straightaways, the Mercedes engine demonstrated its full power, allowing drivers with the star-branded engine to secure good positions in the hierarchy.<\/p>\n

The session was not without its challenges for Jenson Button, who suffered a problem with his gearbox, but the British driver still managed to cover 25 laps, finishing with the 15th fastest time.<\/p>\n
