As the Grand Prix progressed, McLaren’s season turned into a long testing session to return to a more decent level for 2016. Fernando Alonso acknowledged that his car in Abu Dhabi would be largely composed of parts intended for the next season: \u00ab We are going to try to have a good weekend but I think we are thinking more about next year. About 50% of my car is next year’s or the philosophy of next season<\/i>. \u00bb<\/p>\n

Nevertheless, Fernando Alonso was keen to reiterate his satisfaction with leaving Maranello for Woking because it gives him renewed motivation: \u00ab *Personally, I think it was necessary. It’s a step forward for my career, after two titles and five fantastic years fighting for the title but finishing second. I needed a new motivation and a new project I could believe in. I think that’s the only way to become champion again one day.* \u00bb<\/p>\n

However, the Spanish driver knows that it is still much too early to determine what the level of competitiveness of his car will be next year: “The main objective for 2016 is to return to our level, to be competitive and to fight for the front positions. I don’t know if that means fighting for the championship or fighting for victories or just being on the podium from time to time. It’s always difficult to know in such a complex environment as Formula One.”<\/p>\n
