The Spaniard was too aggressive at the start of the race and suffered a puncture that ruined all his hopes of making a good impression. Weary of the fight, he retired midway through the Grand Prix: “As the weekend was shaping up, we certainly could have scored points, and everything ended after an accident on the first lap.” Sainz was actually hit by Sergio Perez.
