The Hungarian Grand Prix will be the stage for a technological innovation never before tested in Formula 1. Indeed, the FIA has equipped the circuit’s curbs with electronic sensors aimed at monitoring drivers who go beyond the track limits.<\/p>\n
In Austria and Great Britain, many drivers were penalized for exceeding track limits, and the FIA decided to respond by installing these sensors at turns 4 and 11 of the Budapest circuit.<\/p>\n
A decision that does not delight some drivers, starting with Sebastian Vettel, who is always very critical: \u00ab It is up to the FIA to avoid designing circuits where going off-track is faster than staying on track. It’s a bit disappointing. The result is that it’s often faster to go off-track than on the track itself. It doesn’t make sense, does it? \u00bb<\/p>\n
Daniil Kvyat agrees with the words of the four-time world champion: \u00ab Just put normal curbs in these places, and there won’t be any need to install electronic chips. But some drivers, like Jenson Button for example, think the idea isn’t necessarily bad: \u00ab It’s good. I like the idea. All the curbs look a bit similar on all circuits, and it’s easy to cross them and go outside. We need boundaries. \u00bb<\/p>\n
Lewis Hamilton, who was penalized by the stewards for going too wide in a turn during qualifying at Silverstone, acknowledges that this change was necessary: \u00ab It’s a good step forward.
