The old guard, close to Ron Dennis, seems to be on its way out as announcements multiply. It has also been confirmed that a historic figure at McLaren, Dave Redding, will also be packing his bags. However, he seems to be leaving more because he received an attractive offer from Williams to eventually replace Steve Nielsen.<\/p>\n
He joined Williams in 2015. Nevertheless, after 30 years of incessant travel, the Briton would like to be more at the factory and close to his family, as confirmed by Claire Williams: “From the start, our sporting director, Steve Nielsen, has always been clear that he wanted to travel less after the 2017 season. We fully understand and respect this as he has been traveling for over 30 years.”<\/p>\n
Williams has therefore initiated the transition process with the mid-year arrival of Dave Redding, who will first undergo a transition period: \u00ab We can confirm that Dave Redding will join Williams as team manager later in the year to work alongside Steve to ensure a smooth transition, taking full responsibility for the racing team in 2018. \u00bb<\/p>\n
To address this departure, McLaren has decided to distribute Dave Redding’s responsibilities between two men: James Paul will inherit the title of team manager, focusing on the operational and managerial aspects, and will be replaced by Kari Lammenranta as the chief race mechanic. Meanwhile, Andrea Stella will take charge of all sporting activities and relations with the FIA, in addition to his responsibilities as the head of race operations.<\/p>\n
