The Grand Prix Drivers’ Association, the GPDA, announced in a statement the election of Romain Grosjean as Director.<\/p>\n
He replaces in this role the Briton Jenson Button, who stepped back from Formula 1 at the end of last year, although he will be at the wheel of the McLaren in Monaco to replace Fernando Alonso, who is busy participating in the Indianapolis 500.<\/p>\n
\u00ab I am proud to have been elected by my peers to the position of Director of the GPDA. \u00bb Grosjean stated in a communiqu\u00e9 published by the association, before adding: \u00ab As race drivers, we do not always share the same opinions, but as a group, we are united in the desire to achieve what we want best for our sport. I believe we have an important role and duty to coordinate among ourselves and with all stakeholders the evolution of our sport. \u00bb<\/p>\n
Alexander Wurz, President of the GPDA and former Benetton and McLaren driver, among others, in Formula 1, praises Jenson Button’s work and welcomes their new Director: “It was a pleasure to work with Jenson over all these years. He always prioritized the interests of the drivers and the sport. In recent years, Romain has been very active as a GPDA member. He has a lot of energy and ideas for our sport.
