With little change in technical regulations between 2017 and 2018, the single-seaters of the upcoming new season are logical evolutions of their predecessors. Williams is no exception to the rule and presents a streamlined FW41, without the shark fin but with the Halo.<\/p>\n
Claire Williams, Director of the British team, praises the work done by her engineers on this new model: “I am thrilled to be back and launch our new car for a new season, with an exciting new driver duo. For many months, the team has put in a tremendous amount of effort into the FW41, and I am looking forward to seeing Lance and Sergey take to the track later this month.”<\/p>\n
The Technical Director of the team, Paddy Lowe, for the first time since his arrival at Williams, has influenced the design of the new car: \u00ab It is very exciting to give everyone their first look at the FW41. It is the result of excellent teamwork across the different functions of the organization, including aerodynamic design, vehicle dynamics, race engineering, and systems engineering. \u00bb<\/p>\n
If the FW41 is therefore an evolution of its predecessor, its design and the team’s approach to its functioning have somewhat changed: All Formula 1 cars are evolutions of their predecessors, but the FW41 includes a number of departures from the directions that have been followed in the past. Overall, the philosophy we are beginning to see emerge is a new approach to the collaboration between aerodynamics and design to achieve an optimal result. Aerodynamics, structure, and weight are the three main factors to make work together to design a Formula 1 car, and all the work, along with a number of radical changes in the car’s packaging to integrate the developments from Mercedes HPP, have led us to the FW41 revealed today, Lowe further specifies.<\/p>\n
