Always striving to increase its audience and to portray a more modern image, Liberty Media has decided to completely revamp its trackside camera management to enhance the impression of speed of the cars during the Grand Prix races.<\/p>\n
Dean Locke, the Media Director in charge of the American group’s television broadcasts, specifies the modifications that will be made starting with the 2019 season: \u00ab There will be a major advancement in 2019 to better reflect the speed and pace of the cars on screen. We are going to completely rethink the placement of cameras. Camera angles or lenses can sometimes cheat and give the cars a less dramatic and less fast appearance. So we have looked for different ways to proceed, some little tricks. We have always been skilled at showing the high speed of the cars, making them appear a bit more aggressive in places. \u00bb<\/p>\n
Locke plans to build on some experiments conducted last year: \u00ab There were a few leads last year, in Japan for example, where we really highlighted the strengths of these cars. \u00bb<\/p>\n
The problem related to the noise of single-seaters, much criticized since the introduction of hybrid engines in 2014, continues to be studied: \u00ab The audio has radically changed as well. We have done much more around the car and on the car. If you look at the images, they tend to be at the front and the audio at the rear. A lot of attention was given to this in 2018, and much more is planned for 2019. It’s a success, but on some tracks, the rendering is better than others.
