Lewis Hamilton, who had taken a back seat in the free practice sessions, came out on top in qualifying on Saturday in Baku. Dominant over his teammate Valtteri Bottas (2nd), he disgusted the Ferrari drivers by relegating them to more than a second.

After conceding the best time in the first two practice sessions to Max Verstappen the day before, Valtteri Bottas dominated a final session punctuated by a number of incidents in Baku. He was ahead of Räikkönen's Ferrari and his own team-mate Lewis Hamilton.

The calm of the morning session completely disappeared this afternoon. It wasn't easy for the drivers to conclude the timed laps, as more than a few yellow flags were waved. The fresher track and the change in light conditions disturbed the drivers, who made many braking errors and used the escape roads on numerous occasions. Red Bull, Ferrari and Mercedes were within two tenths of each other, but Hamilton was lagging behind.
