At the time of the final adjustments before the qualifications, the spots were highly coveted at all levels of the hierarchy. Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton continued their duel, and the German took the lead this morning with a new track record. Hamilton encountered a major issue at the end of the session with a brake failure at turn 3, fortunately without any physical or material consequences.

Haas drivers join the top ten at the end of the day's final practice session. Kevin Magnussen set the 7th fastest time this afternoon. Romain Grosjean climbed to 10th place during the session, despite an off-track stint which caused minor damage to his car. The Frenchman also suffered a puncture in the morning session.

Lewis Hamilton again set the fastest time this afternoon, improving the track record to 1.05.483. Sebastian Vettel and his Ferrari followed the Briton, ahead of the other Mercedes of Valtteri Bottas.

There was no rush on this Friday morning at Spielberg, as teams and drivers waited almost 30 minutes before starting the timed race. Many mistakes were made, and Hamilton set the fastest time of the morning, with Vettel in 4th place.
