Bahrain Grand Prix: new weekend format in 2021

A shortened calendar

The Formula 2 sees its calendar as well as its race formats deeply modified. Fewer meetings over the season, but more races per weekend in 2021!

This year, there will only be 8 F2 events, compared to 12 in previous years. The objective is to reduce costs for teams that were fielding cars in both F2 and F3. These two championships will no longer overlap this year. Teams will therefore be able to send a single operational team to a meeting.

A new weekend format

If qualifications take place as usual on Friday, three races will mark the weekend. To clarify the situation, here is the race schedule in Bahrain:

SéanceDateHoraireChaine
1Essais libresVendredi 26 mars11H05F1 TV
2Qualifications Vendredi 26 mars14H30Canal +

Sprint Race 1 will feature a reverse grid of the top 10 from qualifying, while Sprint Race 2 will have a reverse grid of the top 10 from Race 1. The main race on Sunday will line up the drivers based on their Friday qualifying! Simple, right?

If these changes seem complicated, they should nevertheless bring a greater spectacle and an additional reason to watch the races of the Formula 1 feeder series.

To follow in a second part, the presentation of the teams and drivers for this 2021 season, with the Frenchman Théo Pourchaire!
