Mid-season review: Numbers before the restart
Who has won the most races? Who has the most podiums? Before the return of F1 for the Belgian Grand Prix, it's time to take stock in numbers of the first half of the season.
The 2021 F1 season is getting ready to make its comeback with the Belgian Grand Prix. As the battle rages between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton to win the championship, Motors Inside is sharing with you the important figures of the mid-season before the resumption.
Number of races won
Although Lewis Hamilton is leading the championship, Max Verstappen is leading in terms of the number of Grand Prix wins this season. The Dutch driver is greatly helped by a car that is more efficient and reliable than the Mercedes. It is worth noting that only two other drivers have won a race, including the Frenchman Esteban Ocon in Hungary. Red Bull leads in the number of races won with its two drivers (6), while Mercedes is struggling behind (4). Only the French team Alpine has won a race.

Number of podiums
Who will take the lead this weekend? So far, Hamilton and Verstappen are unable to separate themselves. The Briton, behind throughout the start of the season, has managed to catch up to his rival. Two French drivers have reached the podium. Pierre Gasly finished third in Baku, while Esteban Ocon finished first in Hungary. Unlike victories in a Grand Prix, Mercedes dominates the Austrian team in terms of podiums (14). McLaren and Ferrari are fighting for third place.

Number of laps in the lead
In this category, Red Bull outperforms its competitors. The two drivers of the team stay in the lead the longest in a race (429). Verstappen spends most of the time in the lead with 403 laps. An impressive number that shows the superiority of the Austrian team this season. Mercedes is far behind (147) and Alpine has moved ahead with Ocon’s victory (67).

The pole position
With his victory in the sprint race at Silverstone, Verstappen takes the lead in this category. For this ranking, only the pole position for the Sunday Grand Prix is taken into account. The one won by Hamilton for the sprint race does not count. Charles Leclerc won qualifying two consecutive times in Monaco and Baku. However, this has not allowed the Ferrari driver to win a race since the beginning of the season.
