The 2022 F1 calendar officially unveiled

The FIA World Motor Sport Council met this Friday in Paris to publicly announce the Grand Prix races that will take place in 2022. The season will kick off in Bahrain on March 20 and will be followed by 22 other events.

Welcome to Miami

A Grand Prix makes its appearance in the Formula 1 championship, after many years of negotiations, Miami will host F1 on May 8, 2022. So there will be 2 Grand Prix races on American soil in 2022, as Austin retains its place on the calendar.

On his side, the French Grand Prix will always take place on the often controversial Paul Ricard circuit during the weekend of July 24, 2022, a month later than in previous years. It will be preceded by the Austrian Grand Prix (July 10) and followed by the Hungarian Grand Prix (July 31).

A calendar modified by Covid-19

The global epidemic will have taken its toll on many rounds of the championship over the past two years, and some will have lost their privileges. Indeed, Melbourne will no longer be the opening round of the championship. The organizers hope to host the top category of motorsport on April 10, 2022. The Chinese Grand Prix, another event removed from the calendar in recent years, is definitively absent in 2022. Canada, Singapore, and Japan are finally making their return to the calendar after the onset of the pandemic, and while Istanbul Park has negotiated its inclusion in the 2022 calendar, the event will not be renewed next year.

Historical and mythical circuit of F1, Imola is officially included in the calendar and will take place during the month of April.

A very busy schedule for 2022

Many teams have expressed concern about organizing 23 races over an 8-month period. In order to keep up with the pace, two triple Headers must be organized: Belgium – Netherlands – Italy and Russia – Singapore – Japan (see the calendar). The summer break will take place between the Hungarian Grand Prix (July 31) and the Belgian Grand Prix (August 28). If the health situation improves, some races may still be rescheduled if necessary.
