Esteban Ocon: “A step in the right direction”
For Alpine driver Esteban Ocon, the 2022 race cars have their share of advantages, even if some mechanisms suffer from the new regulations.
Arriving in seventh position at the Bahrain Grand Prix, the Frenchman Esteban Ocon responded to the new measures implemented for the 2022 season. Regarding his teammate Fernando Alonso, he remains cautious about the real impact of these changes. According to him, the DRS and traction system have taken a hit.
“The DRS is less efficient than it used to be, and the traction system in general is less powerful than it was.” declares Esteban Ocon. “I think you can overtake, you can follow a car much closer than before. The car is less struggling when it comes to following another car, so it’s a step in the right direction, but it still affects you a little bit.” he affirms.
« But that must greatly reduce the traction effect.
» reveals the French person.
« I think that what made the movements you saw so easy is probably the difference in tires.
For this opening round of the season, Esteban Ocon thus collects some valuable points and ranks ahead of his teammate, despite having two fewer points on his super license.
