Valtteri Bottas explains his bad start in Bahrain
For his first Grand Prix with Alfa Romeo, Finnish driver Valtteri Bottas finished in sixth place in the qualifying session and, despite a poor start, he maintained his position until the checkered flag.
Valtteri Bottas had a difficult start at the Bahrain Grand Prix, mainly due to the rear tire spinning. The driver revealed that it was a problem that Alfa Romeo would have to work on.
« Honestly, I wasn’t so confident on the grid because 50% of the starts we did in training were bad,” explained the Finn. « It’s an area we’re going to have to work on. I just had a lot of wheel spin. I warmed up the rear tires but I kept sliding in third gear, and after the first lap, I was sliding all over the place and couldn’t do anything against the others,” he lamented.
« It’s mechanical, sometimes we have this vibration in the clutch. It happens 50% of the time. And when it happens, it’s quite easy to lose traction. So yes, it’s on the list and we’re working on it. » concluded Valtteri Bottas.
However, Alfa Romeo scored its first points of the year with Bottas in sixth place and the rookie of the season, Guanyu Zhou, in tenth position.
