Yuki Tsunoda: “We can’t carry on like this”
The AlphaTauri team is experiencing a difficult start to the season, with the retirement of Pierre Gasly in Bahrain and that of Tsunoda in Saudi Arabia. For the Japanese driver, there is still a lot of work to do.
The reliability of Pierre Gasly’s and Yuki Tsunoda’s AlphaTauri cars is questionable. During the opening race of the season in Bahrain, the Frenchman was forced to retire as his car caught fire. On the 47th lap, Pierre Gasly had to park his AT03 on the side of the track and escape from the flames. Last Sunday, his teammate Yuki Tsunoda also faced his share of problems, to the point that he couldn’t even start the race.
Frustration is paramount for the Japanese. « It’s such a pity that we have these problems twice in a row. », he admitted. « We can’t continue like this, we have to solve this problem as quickly as possible. »
The technical failures encountered by AlphaTauri also deprive Yuki Tsunoda of track experience. The Japanese driver regrets not being able to drive more and therefore, not being able to improve as a pilot.
On the other hand, his teammate Pierre Gasly offered a few extra points to Red Bull’s little sister with an eighth place in Jeddah.
