Schumacher does not lose confidence after his accident in Jeddah

At the exit of turn 10 in Q2 on the Jeddah track, Mick Schumacher lost control of his car on the rumble strips before crashing into the opposite wall. The driver had to go to the hospital for some additional tests. No injuries were observed, but the accident still deprived him of the Grand Prix itself.

While the American Haas team scored its first points thanks to Kevin Magnussen in Bahrain, team principal Günther Steiner believes that Danish teammate will not lose confidence despite his accident.

« I don’t think he will lose confidence,” said Steiner.
» “Obviously, the goal is now set a bit higher than last year. Last year, the question didn’t arise and we were content with 19th and 20th places. Because that’s where we were, regularly, by the way. So this year, I think it’s a good thing for him. Because you have to learn that,” the Italian said about Kevin Magnussen, who represents additional pressure for Schumacher. Indeed, having a driver of greater talent could push the German to improve more quickly.

(I) I would even say, the higher you are, the thinner the air. You have to deal with it,” Steiner developed. (I) It’s part of the job. Managing pressure is the daily life of a high-level athlete or a sports manager. The pressure is there and if you can’t handle it, leave and do something else.

Regarding Schumacher’s accident, Günther Steiner is convinced that the analysis of its causes must be done with the driver (himself). « We need to discuss it, I think he should do it because we were not driving the car, we need to show him what he wants to see. And I think we need to compare the data with Kevin, which I haven’t done. Did he push too hard? I don’t know what it was. Were the tires not warm enough? We need to find out. And I think simply by getting back in the car, you regain that confidence. » concluded Steiner.
