Sergio Perez is worried that the constructor title is already lost
With three retirements in just three races, Red Bull has fallen far behind in the championship battle. Mexican driver Sergio Perez reveals his concerns about the reliability issues with the RB18.
During the Bahrain Grand Prix, both Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez’s Red Bulls finished outside of the points. And yet, both drivers were in second and fourth place respectively. But a few laps before the end, they both experienced a power issue and were forced to retire.
If the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix offered a bit of respite to the Austrian team with a victory for the Dutch driver and a fourth place for his teammate, reliability issues resurfaced in Melbourne. This time, Red Bull managed to limit the damage with only one driver retiring from the race and the second one on the podium, namely Sergio Perez. He reacted to the issues encountered with the RB18.
« It is certainly a concern,” said the Mexican.
« We have already lost a lot of points with these three races and in the end, it can make a big difference for the championship […]. The entire team back in Milton Keynes and the one here is doing their best to find solutions. We will see, and I am sure we will come back into the race, with a bit of luck we can start from scratch when we return to Europe,” he declared.
Currently, Red Bull is in third place in the constructor’s standing with a 55-point gap behind Ferrari and 10 points behind Mercedes. Since the beginning of the season, Scuderia Ferrari has been leading the way, thanks in particular to the two victories of Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc. The Italian team’s great form is beyond doubt, and according to Sergio Perez, the F1-75 were on another level in Australia.
