Otmar Szafnauer: Everything is a question of aerodynamics
In just three races, Alpine has collected 22 points. While only two were won by Fernando Alonso, Szafnauer wants to do everything possible to give the Spaniard a competitive car.
With the new regulations, most teams are still seeking to fully understand their cars. While Ferrari dominates the paddock, Alpine has not yet demonstrated the full potential of the A522. According to Szafnauer, Alpine must progress very quickly.
With two-time world champion Fernando Alonso in its ranks, Szafnauer believes Alpine is capable of great things this season. This is why the team principal wants to offer him the best possible car.
“We will obviously make improvements,” said Szafnauer. “And I think everyone will do the same. It’s all about aerodynamics, and we won’t just make small changes here and there, but we will improve the areas that can make a difference as much as possible.”
After these first three Grand Prix, namely Bahrain, Jeddah, and Melbourne, Fernando Alonso is currently in fourteenth place in the driver’s standings, while Esteban Ocon holds the seventh position. As for Alpine, they are currently in fifth place in the constructor’s championship. The situation for Alpine could improve in Imola since the team has incorporated a brand new floor into the A522 car.
