Aston Martin: The other teams are simply “less affected” by the bottlenosing
For Andrew Green, technical director of Aston Martin, the team is still suffering from inconsistency. He prefers to remain optimistic for the rest of the season.
We cannot say that Aston Martin is off to a very good start this season. With Sebastian Vettel’s double absence, four accidents in Australia, and still no points on the board, the British team is progressing with difficulty.
During winter testing, teams were faced with the issue of porpoising, an unforeseen effect of the new regulations, but not a new one. While some teams in the paddock appear to have resolved, or at least reduced, this problem, others such as Aston Martin or Mercedes have not yet found the solution.
For Aston Martin’s technical director, Andrew Green, that is the main concern for the team. It is what causes the AMR22 and its two drivers, Lance Stroll and Sebastian Vettel, to lose valuable seconds against their rivals.
« Some teams are simply less affected by porpoising because the flow works with more ground clearance,” explained Green. « Others who followed our path are now in great difficulty because our cars lose a lot of time per lap,” he deplored. However, Green remains optimistic and asserts that this difficulty should be overcome shortly at Aston Martin.
