Pirelli will begin testing its 2023 tires after Imola with four teams
Pirelli has unveiled its testing schedule for the 2023 tire prototypes. The Italian manufacturer will start with four teams immediately following the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.
Four teams will extend their stay in Imola. Ferrari, Alpine, Alfa Romeo, and AlphaTauri will remain to start testing Pirelli’s 2023 tires on Tuesday, April 26, and Wednesday, April 27. The teams will use their race cars to try out the prototypes provided by the Italian manufacturer. Unlike last year, there is no need for a test mule car for tire testing, as the 2022 and 2023 race cars will be fairly similar.
Pirelli has managed to secure 17 testing days on the Tuesdays and Wednesdays following Grand Prix weeks. The usual testing sessions after the races in Barcelona and Silverstone will not take place this year due to the consecutive races that follow these two events. Therefore, Imola, Austria, Hungary, and Monza will host tests the week following their respective Grand Prix races, along with Mugello for one day.
This year, all teams are participating except for Haas. Last year, it was Williams who had given up due to the cost of manufacturing a test car. The rest of the teams have two days of testing that they can distribute as they wish. Red Bull, Alpine, and Ferrari are the only ones who have chosen to divide their test days between two different circuits.
