Bottas: “I want us to be strong teammates”
At Alfa Romeo, rookie Guanyu Zhou scored his first point in the opening race in Bahrain. And the Chinese driver aims to learn everything he can from his teammate, Valtteri Bottas.
This season, Valtteri Bottas has given up his place to George Russell at Mercedes and now races under the colors of Alfa Romeo. And the Finnish driver seems to be particularly happy with this turnaround, far from the shadow of his former British teammate Lewis Hamilton. By his side, Alfa Romeo has chosen to integrate the first Chinese driver in the history of the discipline, Guanyu Zhou.
The understanding is excellent between the two drivers. While the rookie scored his very first point in Formula 1 at the Bahrain Grand Prix, Valtteri Bottas, on the other hand, has 12 points to his name. But the Finn plays a special role within the team, as he serves as a mentor to Guanyu Zhou. And apparently, the young driver wants to learn as much as possible from his teammate.
“It’s just that, if I see him struggling in a certain area, I try to give him my feedback,” explained Valtteri Bottas. “But he’s also very good when it comes to somewhat worrisome things or when he’s unsure, whether it’s about settings or driving, he always asks.”
Furthermore, the Finn expects to see Guanyu Zhou score more points this season and asserts that he wants to help him to the fullest. “I really want us to be strong teammates. That’s why I want to help him because I want both of us to score points,” Bottas revealed.
