Magnussen: Mick Schumacher “has everything it takes” to be in F1
If Kevin Magnussen didn't think he would return to F1 this season, he is now Mick Schumacher's teammate at Haas and sees a lot of talent in the young driver.
The German Mick Schumacher made his debut at Haas last season and has been subject to numerous criticism. The decision of the team to sacrifice the 2021 season in favor of this year did not help the young driver. In the end, he completed his first season without scoring any points.
In 2022, he was supposed to be Nikita Mazepin’s teammate. However, the war in Ukraine changed the situation, as the team terminated the Russian’s contract. And his replacement is none other than former Haas driver Kevin Magnussen, who went to race on American circuits in 2021.
So far, Kevin Magnussen has earned 12 points in the first three races, largely thanks to his fifth-place finish in the opening round in Bahrain. On the other hand, Mick Schumacher’s points tally remains at zero. However, Magnussen categorically refuses the criticisms directed towards his teammate.
« It’s quite tough because of his last name, the Dane confessed. « His father is the greatest Formula 1 driver in history and some people think he’s here only because he’s a Schumacher. But he really has everything it takes to be here. He did what was necessary, even more. Some drivers have come here without winning F3, like me, Magnussen added, before praising Mick Schumacher’s team spirit and kindness. « He’s a great guy, who really keeps his feet on the ground, very polite. He’s nice to everyone, everyone loves him. »
As a reminder, Mick Schumacher won the Formula 3 European Championship in 2018 and was crowned Formula 2 champion in 2020 before joining Haas.
