Aston Martin was not faster at Imola according to Mike Krack
For the first time since the beginning of the season, both Aston Martin drivers, Sebastian Vettel and Lance Stroll, finished in the points at Imola. However, the team director believes that the AMR22s were not any more performant.
After a catastrophic weekend in Australia where Lance Stroll and Sebastian Vettel caused no less than four accidents and turned this Grand Prix into a nightmare for the engineers, the two drivers finally scored points for Aston Martin at Imola. Sebastian Vettel himself described his result as a victory after the team’s difficulties at the start of the season.
But for Mike Krack, director of Aston Martin, these points are not due to a better performance from the AMR22. “We are obviously happy because we managed difficult conditions on Friday and Sunday to bring a car in better shape without it having better pace,” said Krack.
« Difficult or mixed conditions are where we can really seize our chance. And I think in a normal race with a dry track, things would have been different and much harder for us. I don’t think the car has a better pace than before. If you look closely at the sprint, our defense was tough. There was no chance for us to finish in the points. Overall, I am satisfied with the first points of the season. But we still have a long way to go. So we are smiling today, and tomorrow we will work hard for the future. (F), concluded Mike Krack.
With these five valuable points, Aston Martin is not last in the constructor’s championship and takes the ninth place ahead of Williams.
