Mick Schumacher: “I’m doing my best and the opportunities will come”
Mick Schumacher's hopes of joining the Scuderia Ferrari took a blow with Carlos Sainz's contract renewal. With Ferrari's seats reserved until 2024, Schumacher will have to wait and give his best at Haas.
A few days before the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, the Scuderia Ferrari announced the extension of Carlos Sainz’s contract until 2024. Therefore, both seats are taken for the next two years since Charles Leclerc’s position was already reserved for the next two seasons.
At Haas since the 2021 season, Mick Schumacher will therefore have to wait if he wants to drive a Ferrari in Formula 1 someday. Nevertheless, the German has welcomed Carlos Sainz’s contract extension. “I think in many ways, it was expected,” Schumacher confessed. “Of course, Carlos did an exceptional job last year, so he deserves it. For me, it doesn’t change anything. I’m doing my job here, giving my best, and the opportunities will come,” he concluded.
So far, Mick Schumacher has yet to score any points at the helm of the VF-22. For his first season in Formula 1, the German was the teammate of Nikita Mazepin at Haas, but things changed very quickly this year with the war in Ukraine. Indeed, Danish driver Kevin Magnussen has made a great comeback within the American team and has achieved excellent results since the beginning of the season.
Moreover, Danish strongly believes in the talent of Mick Schumacher and could prove to be a significant support for the young driver.
