Vettel remains evasive about his future in Formula 1
At the end of his contract at the end of the season, Sebastian Vettel has still not clearly stated his intentions to extend or not his Formula 1 career. In an interview with Bild, he has set some conditions, particularly regarding the performance of his car and the development of Aston Martin.
After a difficult start to the season marked by an absence in the first two Grand Prix due to a COVID contamination, Sebastian Vettel returned to the track in Melbourne. The German and his Aston Martin team had a weekend of struggles, and Vettel didn’t seem to be really affected by his team’s difficulties, which sparked a lot of discussion.
Some, like Giancarlo Minardi, even suggested that Sebastian Vettel should retire before the end of the season, given the apparent lack of interest shown by the four-time world champion. While Vettel’s contract expires at the end of the season, he has not yet clarified his intentions. Aston Martin’s director, Mike Krack, has clearly stated that he will do his utmost to retain the German driver.
In an interview for Bild, Vettel remained evasive but asked certain questions to continue his adventure with the team owned by Lawrence Stroll.
« I am still active. My contract runs until the end of the year. No decision has been made yet. It will depend on the power of the car, the development of the team, and how the races unfold. But I don’t need to lie: my future is a topic that is coming to me at the moment, and I am addressing it. The truth is that I have a lot of ideas, I talk to a lot of people, and I get easily excited, explained Vettel to the German media.
« I am currently fulfilling my mission. Two years ago, I said: “I will continue racing for two more years.” But now, I don’t think about life after racing every day. I don’t put pressure on myself to find the perfect next step in my career. I don’t want to create expectations in order to find perfection. With Formula 1, I have found something that I am very good at. Something where I can compete against the best in the world. The future will be defined by time, » concludes the German.
Very committed to important causes such as environmental protection, Vettel could choose to continue his life by fully engaging in the defense of these critical issues. Currently, the four-time world champion is in fourteenth place in the rankings with four points earned thanks to his eighth place finish at Imola last weekend.
