Williams restores confidence to Nicholas Latifi after the threats received
Following the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2021, Nicholas Latifi received numerous insults and threats of all kinds. With a difficult start to the 2022 season for the driver, the team is trying to restore his confidence.
During the latter part of the 2021 season, Nicholas Latifi appeared to be getting closer to the level of his then-teammate, George Russell, and therefore received some compliments.
But the last Grand Prix of the season changed the game for Latifi. During the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the Canadian’s accident sparked a restart of the race after a safety car period. As a result, Max Verstappen caught up to Lewis Hamilton and won the Grand Prix, thus becoming the world champion.
Since this final round, Nicholas Latifi has received numerous threats and insults of all kinds on social media. Furthermore, his start to the 2022 season has not been exceptional. His new teammate, Alexander Albon, has proven to be faster in the first four races. Nevertheless, Williams is not giving up on the Canadian.
The team leader, Jost Capito, wants to help the driver regain confidence. What affected him the most were the threats and comments he received on social media, Capito explained. We have helped him manage that. Of course, his confidence took a hit, but we are working to build it back up. I think Nicholas is on the right track, he explained.
