The new grandstand at the top of Raidillon de Spa was inaugurated
The Spa-Francorchamps circuit has inaugurated a new grandstand. Located at the top of the famous Raidillon, it will be able to accommodate up to 4,600 spectators.
The Spa circuit is getting a makeover. A new grandstand was inaugurated this Wednesday at the top of the famous Raidillon, which can accommodate 4,600 spectators. Other improvements have also been made in other parts of the circuit, particularly in the run-off areas of certain turns.
The work had begun during the winter for a total amount of 25 million euros. The grandstand will be operational as of this weekend to accommodate the 6 Hours of Spa. It offers an unobstructed view for the lucky ones on the Raidillon, made famous for its difficulty due to very low visibility but also for very violent and sometimes fatal accidents (it is at the top of the Raidillon that Anthoine Hubert lost his life in 2019).

This new development is also a way for the organizers of the circuit to show Formula 1 that Spa-Francorchamps is modernizing. The iconic Ardennes track is nearing the end of its contract at the end of the season. The lack of resources provided by the circuit and the outdated infrastructure have put its future on the calendar in jeopardy. Nevertheless, the Belgian Grand Prix is expected to quickly extend the contract that binds it to the sport, much to the delight of fans.
