Wolff: “Drive To Survive doesn’t need to change”
While Drive To Survive will return for two more seasons, Toto Wolff has praised the impact of the series, stating that he does not deem it necessary to change the format despite the criticism.
After the confirmation of the extension of Drive To Survive for two additional seasons, Toto Wolff, the director of Mercedes, praised the work done by Netflix. Despite the criticism from some drivers regarding the tendency of “DTS” to distort reality, the Austrian does not see the need to change the format of the series considering its success.
Each season has become stronger than the previous ones. I believe that people have now learned to know the cast, who is who, and they follow a movie in a way. And I think that if there was no more significant growth, Netflix would be the first, along with Formula 1, to change the format. But for now, we don’t need to change it », estimates Toto Wolff.
Drive To Survive has indeed achieved very impressive ratings, ranking number one on Netflix’s catalog in 33 countries. This is proof of the series’ impact on the growth of the sport worldwide. “DTS” has particularly enjoyed resounding success in the United States, a country that is not typically known for its Formula 1 fandom. The sport’s leaders want to capitalize on the series’ success to conquer the American market, with three Grand Prix races scheduled in Las Vegas as early as next year.
This has created a new dimension for the sport, rather than just the result of who is on the podium. This has shed light on a much larger group of individuals who are involved in the sport, rather than just two or three drivers. I am therefore happy about this extension, rejoices the Austrian businessman.
However, we must continue to do an excellent job on the track, provide a great show, which we did last year. There were all the right ingredients for a good story, and Netflix succeeded in it.
