The standings after the Azerbaijan Grand Prix
In the championship, Red Bull is on a roll, increasing its lead over Ferrari by 80 points after the team's double retirement.
Red Bull strengthens its lead in the constructors’ championship thanks to Max Verstappen’s victory and Sergio Pérez’s second place. The Austrian team now has an 80-point advantage over Ferrari. Sergio Pérez also takes second place in the championship, just 21 points behind his teammate. This confirms his positive momentum after his victory at the Monaco Grand Prix.
Much more contrasting assessment for Ferrari, as they continue to experience poor results. After their underperformance in Spain with Leclerc’s retirement due to a mechanical issue and Sainz’s mistake, followed by a strategic error in Monaco that cost them a potential one-two finish, the red team faced a double retirement in Azerbaijan.
Reliability once again played tricks on the Scuderia, first with Carlos Sainz’s brake failure while in fourth position, and then with Charles Leclerc experiencing an engine issue while leading the race. This series of unfortunate events is proving costly for Ferrari in the title race against Red Bull, and the red team is starting to fall behind.
Note:
– Alpine’s great performance, as they climbed up to fifth place in the constructors’ championship, surpassing Alfa Romeo, thanks to a race where both cars scored points.
– Pierre Gasly’s impressive fifth-place finish, achieving his best result of the season and moving up into the top 10 of the driver’s standings.
– Sebastian Vettel’s sixth-place finish, demonstrating that he’s not “finished” yet and earning valuable points for Aston Martin in the championship.
