For Toto Wolff, Mercedes must not get carried away
After a successful weekend in Canada, the director of Mercedes, Toto Wolff, believes that it is necessary to remain cautious for the rest of the season.
The performances are back at Mercedes. After a very difficult start to the season, especially due to the bottlenecks, the Silver Arrows were lagging behind, especially Lewis Hamilton who couldn’t get used to his W13. On the other hand, George Russell managed to break into the top 5 in every race, scoring big points in the championship.
In Canada, Mercedes managed to place both of its cars among the top five for the first time this season. Despite a rather satisfying performance for the German team, Toto Wolff assures that we should not get carried away.
« I think we need to be cautious. We were not in the loop on Friday, we were good in the rain, which was respectable, and at certain moments we were among the fastest cars in the race. In the second relay, Lewis and George were almost at the level of the leaders. They weren’t really there, but in some laps, yes. It’s very encouraging to see. But we simply have to be cautious. There is so much work we need to do to be back in front, we’re not there yet », stated the team director.
The next rendezvous will take place at Silverstone, on Lewis Hamilton’s home turf, a circuit where the seven-time world champion has often performed very well. The British driver has won eight times in front of his home crowd and could add a ninth victory in his country. Especially since his team will bring new parts for both W13 cars, which could confirm the good form shown in Montreal.
