Alfa Romeo is already looking at 2023
The Italo-Swiss team will postpone planned developments for this season to 2023.
This year, Alfa Romeo is in good shape. The team is led by experienced driver Valtteri Bottas, who has scored 44 points and is well supported by rookie Guanyu Zhou, who has slightly less luck than the Finnish driver.
The team led by Fred Vasseur is consistently in the top 10 during qualifying sessions. In races as well, and for the first time, both cars scored points last weekend in Canada.
Alfa Romeo hopes to continue this momentum this season with the addition of a few evolutions, even though many elements will only be introduced in 2023.
If you want to be efficient, we will have to postpone component updates. We are currently deciding what we will postpone. We will consider different options in terms of cooling, suspension, etc. That’s the life of an engineer – they want to reinvent the wheel every year! If we want to be efficient and have the necessary budget to develop our car throughout the year, we must make postponements, said Fred Vasseur to F1.
« We will not stop the development of the current car, but a portion of this development will be postponed to next year. It’s much less of a problem this season than last year. Since we knew we wouldn’t be bringing updates during the season, we were much more focused on operations, and I think it has been very helpful for our overall performance. »
Before the British Grand Prix, the team is in sixth place in the constructor’s standings, 14 points behind Alpine.
