Christian Horner fears that the end of the season will be played out in court

This is a measure that has been implemented to limit costs and tighten the gaps between teams. This year, the ten teams present in F1 are limited to a budget of 140 million dollars. Some teams have already well surpassed this amount due to accidents, while others may exceed it by the end of the season due to inflation.

“What we are seeing in the world right now is that we do not have control over the inflationary costs that are affecting households worldwide. In the United Kingdom, we are seeing an expected inflation rate of 11%,” Christian Horner told our colleagues at Sky Sports F1 following the Canadian Grand Prix.

If the FIA assures that certain teams are still within the limits, the Britishman believes that at least 50% of the teams could surpass it by the end of the season. The situation could therefore result in financial penalties, a situation that would be regrettable according to the director of the Red Bull team.

We do not want a championship decided in court, or in Paris in front of the FIA. We have six months of the year to solve this problem, we must act now.

He also added that this measure harms employment as he believes that the best teams should get rid of around two to three hundred people each in order to be able to take care of them.
