Max Verstappen, towards retirement in 2028?
The Dutchman does not exclude quitting his career as a driver after the end of his contract in 2028.
Regardless of what happens, Max Verstappen will have left an indelible mark in the history of Formula 1. Arriving at the age of 17, the young Dutchman immediately made an impression with daring overtakes and a victory in just his second season.
Last year, he experienced consecration with the achievement of his first world title after a fierce battle with Lewis Hamilton throughout the season.
He is currently in his eighth season in the discipline and his presence is guaranteed for the long term. The contract that links him to Red Bull has been signed until the end of the 2028 season.
But this season could be the last for the reigning world champion. “Maybe I’ll stop,” he told De Telegraaf. “By then, I will have been racing in Formula 1 for a while. It depends a bit on whether the car is good. I can’t stand driving at the back of the pack. I prefer to drive in another class. But for now, I really wouldn’t want to drive for another team. So, if you feel good about something and it works, why change?”
By this date, things will most certainly change, especially with the new engine regulations planned for 2026. By that time, the team in which Jos’ son is involved could be a partner of Porsche, with whom a very good relationship could endure.
