The F1 denounces “unacceptable comments” from fans

Totally unacceptable comments were made on the sidelines of the Austrian Grand Prix. On social media, several people posted homophobic and sexist messages received by fans who were present this weekend in Austria.

In face of these acts, Formula 1 has decided to take action and denounces the bad behavior of these spectators. We have been informed that some fans have been subjected to completely unacceptable comments from other people [at the circuit]. We have raised this issue with the promoter and the security, we will speak to those who have reported these incidents, and we take this very seriously. This kind of behavior is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. All fans must be treated with respect, according to a statement.

Lewis Hamilton reacts.

Lewis Hamilton also mentioned the behavior of some fans in Austria. The British driver went off track during Friday’s qualifying session and was applauded by many spectators gathered in the stands.

The seven-time world champion has also reacted on social media to these homophobic and sexist messages. « Disgusted and disappointed to learn that some fans are facing racist, homophobic, and generally abusive behavior on the circuit this weekend. »

Attending the Austrian Grand Prix or any other GP should never be a source of anxiety and pain for fans, and something must be done to ensure that races are safe spaces for everyone.

« Please, if you see this happening, report it to the circuit security and to F1, we cannot sit back and allow this to continue.
