Mattia Binotto was stressed in the final laps of the race

The last endless laps. During the Austrian Grand Prix, Ferrari could have lost everything. As a double victory was in sight, the Scuderia first lost Carlos Sainz’s car, which went up in smoke.

After the intervention of the Virtual Safety Car, it was Charles Leclerc’s car that was worrying. The Monegasque driver, who had a four-second lead over Max Verstappen, felt a problem with his accelerator pedal.

« I have to admit that I was very nervous. Also disappointed with what happened to Carlos. I was so nervous that I stopped watching the race three laps before the finish, confided Mattia Binotto.

The Ferrari director did not want to experience a second Grand Prix with a double retirement like in Azerbaijan.

« Obviously, we need to study what happened today [for Sainz]. Is it the same as what happened in Baku with Charles? It’s very likely. It’s certainly a cause for concern, but the team in Maranello is working very hard to resolve the issues. Clearly, if we look at what happened to Carlos, it’s not yet resolved. But we have new elements and I know how hard they are working and how competent they are. I can rely on them to resolve it very quickly. As soon as possible, I hope.

Despite Ferrari’s anxiety, Charles Leclerc finished the race in first position and gained a few points against his rival Max Verstappen.
